Volvo Xc40 Review Australia | Features, Specification, Price

 

The Car that we will be talking about is Volvo's XC40. It is one of the newest extra-small luxury SUVs available on the market. This model continues Volvo's tradition. It also includes a significant amount of standard safety technology features. In addition, Volvo XC40's small size and entry-level luxury pricing do not imply that it lacks luxury. Volvo has equipped its little SUV with many incredible features. These features include a large touchscreen infotainment screen and standard leather upholstery. Engines:

As mentioned before, the 2021 Volvo XC40 is available in three trims. It also comes with a choice of three powertrains. The T4 and T5 models both utilize a turbocharged 2.0-liter four-cylinder engine. It is mated to an eight-speed automatic transmission.

 

The T4 model produces 140kW of power and 300 Nm of torque. It is available with either front- or all-wheel drive. It quotes 0-100 km/h times of 8.4 and 8.5 seconds, respectively. The T5 model produces 185kW of power and 350 Nm of torque. It is available only with all-wheel drive. Additionally, it takes 6.4 seconds to make the 0-100 km/h sprint.

 

The Recharge Plug-In Hybrid model mates a turbocharged 1.5-liter three-cylinder engine that produces 132kW of power and 265 Nm of torque with a 10.7 kWh lithium-ion battery pack, a seven-speed dual-clutch automatic, and an electric motor. This electric motor produces 60kW of power with 160 Nm of torque. The total output of the system is 195kW of power, and 0-100 km/h takes 7.3 seconds.

The Volvo XC40 is classed as a small SUV. It is a five-door and five-seat SUV. The most affordable model of Volvo XC40 drives the front wheels only. The other two models drive all four wheels. This 2021 model measures 4425 mm long, 1910 mm wide, and 1652 mm tall. The luggage space is 460L. It can be expanded to 1336L by folding the second row. The curb weight varies in various models. The T4 Momentum weighs 1609 kg, the T4 Inscription 1657 kg, and the T5 R-Design 1684 kg. At the same time, the Recharge Plug-In Hybrid weighs 1760 kg.

 

Interior:

The Volvo XC40 has a pretty nice interior. It has standard leather upholstery, which is comfortable and looks classy. Most of its controls are accessed via using the touchscreen. All XC40s also come with a blind-spot monitor. It alerts you if a vehicle in the next lane is in your blind spot. It also has a driver attention warning feature. This feature issues an alert if sensors determine that you are becoming fatigued. Another feature included is lane-keeping assist.  This feature steers the XC40 back into its lane in case it drifts to the lane marker. The lane departure warning feature alerts you if the vehicle begins to drift out of its lane. The adaptive headlights swivel as you turn the steering wheel for better lighting in the curves. Lastly, the forward collision mitigation feature warns you of an impending collision. It also applies the brakes in specific scenarios.

 

Premium package:

It is available only for Momentum and includes the following features:

This design adds unique styling. It has all the features that are available in the Premium package. It also adds some extra features, including:

Safety:

Based on testing that was conducted in 2018, the Volvo XC40 has a rating of five stars from ANCAP. All the models of Volvo XC40 received an adult occupant protection score of 97 percent, a child occupant protection score of 84 percent, a vulnerable road user protection score of 71 percent, and safety assist score of 78 percent.

Cons:

There are a few downsides to the Volvo XC40. The infotainment system it includes takes a lot of work to figure out. One may also be frustrated by its unnecessary two-step gear selection process. The system has a maze of menus. Additionally, their laggy responses never fail to disappoint. Another drawback is that tall drivers might not be able to find a comfortable seating position. This is because of limited steering wheel adjustability and the headrest design.
