Whenever the word “insurance” appears, the first thing to pop in your mind is paying a handsome amount of money for your (or your property’s) protection. An insurance agency provides you compensation for your loss in case of an accident as long as it falls under the terms and conditions you agreed to at the start. If you think about it, the insurance agencies started off just about now, right? Well, if they didn’t just start in this century, they probably started in the previous one… since that’s when things like this mostly started. You would be surprised to learn that the official version of insurance agencies started in 1752.
Benjamin Franklin founded the ‘Philadelphia Contributionship’ in that year. Not long after, in 1759, the first life insurance company was founded. Enough of the history lecture, the point we are trying to make is that insurance companies have been here for a long time. Let’s just look at what we are here to do and be done with it, we wouldn’t want to keep you waiting either! Here’s a review of SGIO Car Insurance.
About SGIO Car Insurance:
Just like most of the insurance companies in Australia, SGIO Car Insurance is backed up by Insurance Australian Group Limited (IAG; the biggest insurance group in Australia and New Zealand). SGIO has over 90 years of experience since they started off way early in the 20th century; 1926 to be more specific. It has been providing various insurance services. The car insurance may be the most noticeable aspect of this company, however, there are other options which the company covers too; including but not limited to cars, bikes, house, business, boat, caravan, travel, etc.
As per SGIO’s official website, they had insured over $2 trillion worth of assets… which is a really big amount.
What services does SGIO Car Insurance provide?
SGIO surely has a lot of grounds to cover. However, we will only list the car insurance packages they have. All of the packages differ from one another to some extent. SGIO Car Insurance provides the following services/insurance packages:
Third-Party Property:
A sort of add-on to other insurances, Third-Party Property covers the costs of legal issues and/or damages caused to the victim’s property. Again, it covers only the costs of property, not of the physical injuries. It also does not cover the costs of the damage to your own property, only the victim.
Third-Party, Fire, and Theft:
In addition to the features offered by the Third-Party Property car insurance, Third Party, Fire, and Theft also cover the costs of your vehicle if it catches fire or is stolen. It again does not cover any costs of the damage to your car by collision.
Comprehensive Car Insurance:
This is the type of insurance that covers everything from damages to your car and yourself in a collision, to the third party and their property, and also covers the fire and theft aspect of the Third Party, Fire, and Theft insurance. This is basically the complete insurance package.
Comprehensive Plus Insurance:
Comprehensive Plus is basically Comprehensive Car Insurance on steroids. It includes all of the benefits of the original package, and apart from that, there are some extra benefits that come with it. These are excess-free windscreen, sunroof and glass cover. It also includes the premium option of getting a hire vehicle while your car is being repaired.
Veteran, Vintage, and Classic:
This package is exclusive to the people who own and drive and a veteran, vintage, or a classic vehicle. If your vehicle falls into one of the said categories, you are eligible to get the cover for the car’s agreed value in case of an accident.
Positive Points:
There are a lot of car insurance companies out there. You may think what separates SGIO from them. Well, a lot of things! (Bad Joke Alert) Look at their names! In all seriousness, there are a lot of positive points about SGIO. A few of them are listed below:
1. Manageable Additional Features:
The features available in Comprehensive Plus as a plus are also available as an additional one, albeit comprehensive plus is still better than these. The additional features include a hire car option for $95 a day. Apart from that, there’s an extra windscreen option available for screens of your vehicle.
2. Extra Benefits:
SGIO offers extra benefits as explained in the services section.
3. Good Service:
The company is available 24/7 and you can file a claim at any time of the day. When you file a claim, you will be handled as soon as possible provided your claim is legitimate and falls under the terms and agreements.
Negative Points:
While SGIO has a lot of positive reviews, there are negative aspects of the company:
1. Expensive:
The only drawback of the company is that it is more expensive than any other of the same sort. But that is pretty much compensated by the fact that the company offers such a good service and extra benefits and features.
SGIO Car Insurance Customer Reviews:
Review #1
“The insurer I was with was government, so it was established and well known and everything seemed to run smoothly.”
“Expensive for what you get.”
Review #2
“Why is it that every year your policy goes up but surely the value of your car drops but when you ring and say can they do a better price they look st it and come back with an l ss amount if they want us to stay with them decrease the policy to keep us even if it is only a small amount that we the customer will not go looking for another quote where are our rewards for staying with you.”
Review #3
“I use this insurer as they are the only ones to cover me as I've had a recent crash. however when I went to renew my insurance for the first time, the guy told me i cant and I have to make a new claim, it all seemed kind of fishy as even the price was higher, I told him no, hung up, called again, different person, straight away renewed my insurance without hassle, seemed fishy but I got my insurance covered. next time I'm changing companies.”
So, what’s so special about SGIO?
All in all, not much can be said against SGIO. Their customers seem to be happy enough since they provide their services to everyone, however, there are some drawbacks to them too. SGIO seems like a good enough option for someone who is willing to spend a little bit extra on their car insurance and enjoy all the benefits that come with it. The company has been given a 1.9 rating on Google. Probably because most of the customers were not satisfied. However, there are biased reviews over there too, so nothing can be said without proper evidence.
In our opinion, SGIO Car Insurance is a good enough company for auto insurance, however, there are other better and cheaper alternatives. The final decision rests in your hands. If you want to go with SGIO, we fully support you.
