MG ZS Review Australia

2016 marks the revival of the MG brand. This is when the SAIC Motor Group, MG’s parent company,  announced its return to international markets. The return of the brand has been very triumphant. They positioned MG as a valuable option for people who look for SUVs and hatchbacks. In the last year, the most popular MG ZS brought forth a range of small SUVs. This made the original model the brand’s price leader SUV.

Today, at Quick Revs, we will review the MG’s compact SUV called the ZS. This SUV comes with a price tag of $21,990. This small SUV is well built and has all the essential features of an SUV. The MG is budget-friendly and is made to serve Australian families.

Engine:

The 2021 MG ZS has two engines. The base Excite is powered by a naturally-aspirated 1.5-litre four-cylinder engine. It produces 84kW of power and 150 Nm of torque and is coupled with a four-speed automatic transmission. The other MG ZS models use a turbocharged 1.0-litre three-cylinder engine. This engine produces 82kW of power and 160 Nm of torque, and it is mated to a six-speed automatic transmission. All models of MG ZS are front-wheel drive.

The MG ZS SUV uses 7.1L/100km on the combined cycle with the 1.5-litre and 6.7L/100km with the 1.0-litre. All models of MG ZS need 95RON premium unleaded fuel. It has a 48L fuel tank.

Exterior:

The exterior of the MG ZS SUV is stylish and elegant. It measures 4314 mm long, 1809 mm (including the mirrors) and 1620 mm tall. If we include the roof rails, it measures 1644 mm tall. This SUV rides a 2585 mm long wheelbase. From the load bay floor up to the cargo cover, the luggage space it has is 359L. This can expand to 1166L if we fold the rear seats. The MG’s entry-level ZS comes riding on 17-inch alloys. It also has automatic halogen headlights that have LED “London Eye” daytime running lamps.

The superior exterior also includes:

✓ A reversing camera

✓ Rear-mounted parking sensors

The steering wheel is wrapped with full-grain leather, and the front and side include full-length curtain airbags. It is packed with some fantastic features that include an 8.0-inch infotainment system that has Bluetooth and Apple CarPlay connectivity. The SUV also has cruise control, air conditioning, and a six-speaker 3D audio system from Yamaha.

The ZS Excite Plus includes all the features we’ve mentioned above, plus it also has a more powerful turbocharged engine.

Moving to the top-spec of MG ZS Essence includes premium features like:

✓ Two-tone 17-inch alloy wheels

In addition, it has a good and acceptable protection score of the whiplash and pedestrian, respectively. The overall score of MG SZ was 31.46 out of 37.

All 2021 MG ZS models come standard with front, front-side and curtain airbags and anti-lock brakes. However, there are no active safety features available. To get features like autonomous emergency braking, you’ll need to step up to the ZST.

✓ It provides a firm ride on B-roads

Our Verdict:

If you are wondering whether the MG ZS range is worth it, then, considering the highly affordable price tag that comes attached to the ZS lineup, it’s a valuable car. The complete package of the entry-level ZS models gives a remarkable value for money. It closes the gap between the ZS and its rivals. Before buying any model, it is better to do research.
