Ford Falcon XR8 Review Australia

Your very own Australian brand, The Ford Falcon. Here’s the final chapter of Ford Australia- The Ford XR8. Or in other words, we could call it The Holy Grail for Falcon. Ford XR8 was introduced too late to save the Falcon but at least it went out with a bang! The Ford Falcon is an absolutely ideal choice in the full-sized luxurious sedan. These amazing cars come in a variety of body shapes and styles offering you something according to your taste.

The XR8 was launched in the last years of Ford Falcon and is one of the most lavish and truly iconic models of all designs. Let’s for a moment forget that Ford Falcon cars will never be manufactured exclusively for Australia and appreciate this absolute beauty.

The engine of Ford XR8:

The Ford Falcon XR8 comes in a 5.0-liter supercharged V8-powered, eight-cylinder petrol-based engine – the FPV GT. The Ford XR8 engine produces up to 335 kW at 5750 rpm and about 570 Nm of torque in between 2200 rpm to 5500 rpm. The fuel consumption of the Ford Falcon XR8 is 13.6 liter per 100 km. The engine comes in a six-speed automatic transmission and six-speed manual transmission with an upgraded suspension. This engine was made locally by Melbourne firm Harrop. The supercharger with exhilarating propulsion. The mix of supercharger engine whine and exhaust thunder has a wicked soundtrack to it.

What does the Ford Falcon XR8 look like from the outside?

Let’s talk about the XR8 design.

Incorporated with Ford’s latest nose and tail corporate design, The Ford XR8 is an FG Falcon. The bonnet of XR8 is slightly raised giving it a subtle look with W-shaped LED lights and the bold power bulge with the FG model. These W-shaped LED lights give the car a bit of an aggressive look. The Ford XR8 also comes with an upgraded addition, the Daytime running lights, and has wide-opening doors.

The XR8 package comes with a unique set of wheels, shadow-lined five-spoke 19-inch alloy wheels. It is a four-door sedan with rear-wheel drive (with 8.0 front and 9.0 rear wheels), a quad-tipped exhaust system, and exterior power repeater mirrors.

Following are the dimensions of Ford XR8:

✓ Overall Height: 1433 mm

✓ Overall Length: 4970 mm

✓ Overall Width: 1868 mm

✓ Wheelbase: 2838 mm

What does the Ford Falcon XR8 look like from the inside?

The interior of the Ford XR8 is quite impressive and generous, slight updates have been made to the model. The seats come in natural perforated leather, with seat bolster. This Nudo Print Leather provides outstanding cushioning to the lateral body on twisty roads. The control is clear and has front and rear parking sensors. Everything inside is neat but of course, has a dated vibe to it. The new Falcon comes in with Ford’s SYNC 2 smart technology, connectivity system, and Emergency Assistance (which is standard across the range). This Ford’s smart tech is Microsoft Based and comes with controlling your phone via voice commands, playing music, radio, air-conditioning, and GPS navigation (with a single shot) by entering the destination. The steering wheel is well-weighted. The automatic braking system and the heads-up display in XR8 are unavailable.

The XR8 comes with an 8.0-inch touch screen with SYNC 2 system. This screen comes in four color-coded quadrants, along with two USB charging ports. The Sync 2 system comes with a lot of features along with automatically calling for help in an event such as a crash or an accident. For safety and security, the car comes with six airbags including curtain airbags. All of these are augmented in ultra-high-strength steel for protection.  For keeping the XR8 under control, ABS braking and traction control work to create a Dynamic Stability Control. This limits the under and oversteer of the vehicle. The XR8 is also incorporated with a fatigue warning system, rear and front parking system, and Emergency assistance as well.

The Final Verdict:

The Ford XR8 is the last Muscle car by Ford Australia. The supercharged engine of the XR8 is an absolute beauty. The interior rear passenger side has space for two baby seats but otherwise is a little tight. However, it has the practicality of a family car. So, if you want a big sedan, the Ford XR8 might be your car. Surely, Ford Australia went out with a bang. The last of its kind was comfortable and updated, not exactly a premium car but good enough. The engine kind of makes up for the bumpy rides and bland or dated interior.
