Ford F150 Review Australia

The Ford F-150 is one of those cars which serve as a perfect example of a modern yet tough looking pick-up truck. The truck has the capability to tow and haul unlike any other in the class. Plus, it offers a wide range of technology features and luxury. The combination makes the F-150 one of the most attractive and versatile trucks that you can get your hands on. It is not surprising, therefore, that the F-150 is among the top-selling vehicles in the market in the class.

Labeled as the epitome of substance and versatility, the Ford F-150 is Australia’s favorite truck. It is equally popular in America, even included in the list of ten most influential vehicles of the last decade. The 2020 Ford F-150 is available in six trims and as many engine configurations, offering plenty of options to buyers. The truck is a capable off-roader, can be utilized as a basic workhouse or even a cruiser around town.

Ford F150 models:

The 2020 Ford F-150 is available in plenty of trims, as with most full-sized trucks. There are a total of six variants, namely: XL, XLT, Lariat, King Ranch, Platinum and Limited.

An additional off-road-ready F-150 Raptor variant is also available. Moreover, there are three cab styles which are: regular, SuperCab and SuperCrew. Depending on the can style, you can get the option for three bed lengths.

Engine options:

As with the multiple trim levels, Ford offers six engine variants for the F-150. The base variant is a naturally aspirated V6 engine capable of producing 290-horsepower. Next in line are the 325 and 375-horsepower EcoBoost turbocharged V6 engines. After that, you can go for the more powerful V8 engine with 395-horsepower.

The Limited and Raptor models come equipped with high output 450-horsepower turbocharged V6 engines. Lastly, the Ford F-150 diesel outputs 250-horsepower.

All of the engines deliver plenty of power for driving the F-150 around town and on the highway. Each is capable of some towing as well. The turbocharged and V8 engines feel much stronger than the base powertrain. They provide more energetic acceleration.

The most impressive engine in the lineup is the performance-oriented EcoBoost V6 that is available in the Raptor and Limited trims. It makes 450 horsepower, and you will be thrown back in your seat when you hit the gas pedal.

F-150 Exterior:

Among the different models, there are multiple looks available for the Ford F-150 Australia. Yet, there are some features that are common to all. The C-shape headlights are one that customers are accustomed to. As well as the large front grille which people have come to cherish. For the base model, the F-150 is fitted with black plastic bumpers and mirrors. In the XLT, fog lights are added, and the standard steel wheels are replaced with 17-inch alloy wheels.

The Lariat adds 18-inch alloy wheels and color-coded mirrors. The King Ranch integrates LED fog lights, a unique grille, and quad beam LED headlights. Things get even better for the Platinum, with the addition of chrome mirrors and 20-inch polished wheels. For the range-topping model, the wheels are even bigger at 22-inch, with a dual-pane sunroof and a dual exit exhaust.

F-150 Interior:

The interior for the Ford F-150 is laid out well and easy to use. The base models use hard, durable plastics and an infotainment system that is basic at best. As you move up the trims, you will notice the infotainment system getting bigger and even heated and ventilated seats in the top models. Ford explains the idea behind so many options as to provide a truck suited for any and every requirement.

Key Features:

Even as standard, the Ford F-150 is really very well equipped. A stop-start option, a rearview camera, cruise control, climate control, autonomous emergency braking and more.

As you move further up, you will get access to automatic headlights, keyless entry, heated power mirrors, ambient lighting, dual-zone climate control and power-adjustable pedals. Moreover, the higher trims also include driver assistance features such as lane-keeping assistance and blind-spot warning. For the Platinum model, things get even better. You get adaptive cruise control, automatic wipers, 360-degree surround view, and rear parking sensors.

Safety Features:

The Ford F-150 has scored the maximum when it comes to safety.

Key safety features include:

✓ Six airbags

✓ Autonomous emergency braking

✓ Rear view camera with trailer sway control

✓ Trailer hitch assist

✓ Blind spot warning

✓ Lane keep assist

✓ Adaptive cruise control

✓ Automatic high beams

New vs Used:

Over the years, the Ford F-150 truck has seen many changes. The 2020 F-150 belongs to a generation that started off in 2015. And from then on, there have been any changes that are worthy of note. Most importantly in the 2018 F-150, Ford improved and enhanced the performance and towing capabilities.

You can potentially save thousands of dollars if you go for a used Ford F-150. That is, if you go for one which is not older than 2015.

Pros:

✓ Numerous safety features that come as standard

✓ All trims equipped with Wi-Fi as standard

✓ Multiple engine and trims options

✓ Unmatched towing capability

✓ Turbodiesel engine has an impressive fuel economy

Cons:

✓ Some of the trim levels are overpriced when compared to rivals

✓ Base engine is underpowered

Final Verdict:

One thing that you will note is that there are a lot of variations between the top and lowest trim models. The base model is nowhere as luxurious as the top trim. And when you compare to some of the rivals, you will notice a slack in ride comfort and interior, for the base trim at least. It also has an unfortunate wheezy engine and a gearbox that is just okay. Even the infotainment system seems to be behind times and can make you frustrated at times. But these are the issues with the base models only. As you move up, there is serious potential and value, right up to the top variant. Not ignoring the fact that the F-150 still offers the best towing ability in the class.

The 3.5-liter twin-turbo V6 offers the most power and you are unlikely to want more.  While the turbodiesel V6 comes with the best efficiency and towing capability. Or you can easily browse through the rest to find the best version that suits your requirements. The truck has a lot to offer, with decent combined space, several safety features, and an impressive list of features.
