2022 Isuzu MU-X Review Australia

The first-generation Isuzu MU-X is a good seven-seater SUV that is designed for towing and off-roading abilities. Though it is a bit old school, it is a perfect competitor for cars like Ford Everest or Toyota Prado. This is because this SUV has always been a reliable and trustworthy machine.

Isuzu Ute has been the perfect partner for thousands of Australians who looked for a  country-friendly family haulier that would be perfect for getting away from the city rush. Australia has been one of the biggest markets of MU-X.  For seven years in a row, it's been among the top-selling ute-based SUVs. To know about the 2022 Isuzu MU-X, read on!

2022 Isuzu MU-X engine:

The 2022 Isuzu MU-X runs on the '4JJ3-TCX' 3.0-litre Isuzu four-cylinder turbo-diesel engine. Since it is lifted from the previous Ute, it produces 140kW of power at 3600rpm and 450 Nm of torque at 1600rpm. Compared to the old MU-X's donk, it offers 10kW and 20Nm more.

The engine is coupled with a standard six-speed Aisin automatic transmission. It offers rear-wheel drive with 4H and low-range 4L gearing. Other upgrades include a new transfer case and a more robust, thicker output shaft.

2022 Isuzu MU-X exterior:

The 2022 Isuzu MU-X resembles its D-MAX utility. Replacing the slab-sided look of its predecessor, the 2022 Isuzu MU-X incorporates sculpted flanks and more shoulder shape.

The wheel arch flares are now a little more integrated into the sides of the new version. The widows have a slimmer C-pillar and a more conventional shape. This provides a better view of the third-row seaters.

It has got a strong shoulder line and a squarer stance that provides plenty of presence to the MU-X on the road. Its eye-catching styling at the front and the rear is also something that is better than its previous model.

Some other exterior features include:

Body-colored exterior mirrors and door handles

 Roof rails

 Rear 'privacy' glass

 LED fog light

 Silver or chrome front grille

 18 inches alloy wheels

2022 Isuzu MU-X interior:

The interior of the 2022 Isuzu MU-X is on its plus points. You can get inside it by keyless 'smart' entry, and the cabin has piano black, silver and chrome highlights.

On the front side, the seats are spacious and have plenty of side bolstering and leg support. In addition, the front seats are heated and have powered adjustments. It also has an auto-dimming rear-view mirror fitted inside. To help passengers pull themselves up, it incorporates sturdy A-pillar grab handles.

The steering wheel is very classy. It has contrast stitching and is trimmed in soft leather. There are also weighted buttons present, and unlike the old MU-X, it adjusts telescopically. Then there are two analogue gauges as well as a digital trip computer; wheels are being driven driving data, a speedo, and various active safety system settings are displayed on them.

Here are some other interior features that the 2022 Isuzu MU-X has:

 The 9.0-inch centre display

 Wired and wireless Apple CarPlay

 Wired Android Auto

 DAB radio receiver

 Bluetooth

 Reversing camera

 Eight-speaker JVC Kenwood audio system

 Dual-zone digital climate control system

 Rotary dial

 Electric park brake switch

It also has some amazing storage options as well. This includes four front cup holders, dual gloveboxes,  a sunglasses holder, door bins, and a deep cubby below the fascia. The middle row of this Ute passes the family test with flying colours. It has a more forward B-pillar than the old model. It provides good rear legroom and headroom and comfortable reclining seats to even taller persons as well.

Some basic amenities that the 2022 Isuzu MU-X  include are the following:

Vents in the roof with fan speed adjustment

Two USB points fitted behind the centre console

 A centre armrest

 Pull-out cup holders

 Big handles on the B-pillars

 A clever shopping bag hook

The access to the third seating row is straightforward; even kids can do it if needed. The rear seats of the new model are 105mm more expansive than the last model. This implies that you will get sufficient room for two adults. In addition, you can enjoy the features like roof vents and cup holders. If the third row is not in your use, you can just fold the seat into the floor.

The MU-X's seven seats have a boot with a capacity of 311 litres, and in the five-seat model, it's a capacious 1119L. While folding the five seats, you will get 2138L.

2022 Isuzu MU-X safety:

The 2022 Isuzu MU-X is not yet crash-tested, but the crash tester ANCAP is working on scoring it, so there are no results yet. The expectation of the results are similar to the  D-Max version as the 2022 Isuzu MU-X has the same safety features that aced the 2020 test with a five-star score.

The 2022 Isuzu MU-X has amazing safety features. This includes eight airbags that incorporate full curtains and a front-centre 'bag.  There are three top-tether points as well as two ISOFIX anchor points for the safety of kids.

Some standard safety features that all versions include are the following:

 A 3D camera

 Autonomous emergency braking

 Post-collision braking

 Traffic sign recognition

 Lane-keep assist

 Blind-spot monitoring

 Rear cross-traffic alert

 Driver attention monitor

 Adaptive cruise control

It has a bigger and better interior than before

The Punchy, efficient diesel has 3.5t towing

It is nicer to drive in town and has better 4x4 credentials

The new  MU-X has improved everywhere that matters

Cons:

 It should have a full-time 4x4 system

It has piano black trims that magnify glare and dust

 The price has increased everywhere

It misses out on some high-tech cabin tech

There should have been a three-pin plug

The final verdict:

If you decide to buy this real seven-seater, you will get what you pay for. The new 2022 Isuzu MU-X is far easier to drive than the old one. It has an even better diesel donk just made for hard work.
